Things You Can Do in the Metaverse
As the public's enthusiasm for internet decentralization grows, such as crypto, NFT, and Metaverse, many parties are capitalizing on the hype by creating various activities or goods related to these technologies. One way is to develop activities in the Metaverse.
Before we go too far, what is Metaverse? There is no concrete definition of a metaverse, but some have defined it:
"You can think about the Metaverse as an embodied internet, where instead of
just viewing content, you are in it. And you feel present with other people as if
you were in other places, having different experiences that you couldn't
necessarily do on a 2D app or webpage, like dancing, for example, or different
types of fitness."
– MARK ZUCKERBERG, CEO OF META PLATFORMS
"The Metaverse is effectively an interface layer made up of hardware and
software that makes the physical and virtual worlds indistinguishable from one
– JAMIE BURKE, FOUNDER AND CEO OF OUTLIER VENTURES
So what can be done in the Metaverse? Here are some of them:
Developer/Creator Economies, Games: Metaverse has the potential to provide an excellent opportunity for content creators to create something unique and find their niche. Metaverse can also help third-party developers sell experiences and virtual assets, including games, social media, trading, and NFT marketplaces.
Virtual Workspaces, Communities: workplaces can become virtual, especially when stakeholders seek to improve remote and hybrid work by creating digital spaces where users can log in as avatars. Products like Meta's Horizon Workrooms and Microsoft's Mesh make it possible for meetings in virtual reality to happen. The hype around Metaverse has also created a boom in virtual real estate, including on platforms like The Sandbox, where someone paid $450.000 to be Snopp Dogg's neighbor.
Digital Entertainment Events - Concerts, Tourism, Museums, Fashion Shows, Sports, Theme Parks, and Beyond: Virtual environments can help create concerts, film premieres, launch parties, and virtual events for various industries and offer a marketplace for buying NFT. Some examples:
Travis Scott concerted at Fortnite in 2020.
In December 2021, The Korean tourism organization released the HAHAHOHO Gyeongju World map in the Metaverse, offering visitors to visit historical sites from the Silla Dynasty and other tourist attractions.
In March 2022, Decentraland launched the MVFW digital fashion week. Avatar displays various outfits on virtual runways, pop-up stores, showrooms, fashion talks, and multiple parties are part of the event.
Fashion brands like Monnier Frères sell digital outfits for avatars and real-world in the Metaverse.
Realitychain (yes, that's us!) is holding the Mocca Love Fest Event in April 2022. In the event Mocca concerted with live footage and avatar, users also can interact with them, play interactive games, check out Mocca's NFT gallery, and merch they can purchase. We're also partnering with Lacrove to hold our own Metaverse Fashion Week in near future. Please look forward to it.
Virtual Advertising: Advertising on the platform allows users to use their avatars to become active participants, offering an immersive experience where they can interact with both real and virtual goods. Brands such as Nike, Gucci, and Burberry, have started using this method and are actively selling digital clothing and accessories in multiplayer games.
Social Commerce and e-commerce: The Metaverse can significantly impact how we shop. Virtual shopping malls and digitization of retail products allow users to browse items with friends, talk to company representatives and influencers about products, and try them out digitally. Some examples:
Amazon created a metaverse with an Augmented Reality shopping tool called Room Decorator. This software lets users see furniture and home decorations in their respective rooms using a smartphone or tablet.
In December 2021, Google created an augmented reality experience that allows users to try cosmetic products through the app before buying and without coming to the store.
The list above is some of the activities that can be done in the Metaverse; there are many other potentials of what we can do in the Metaverse, including health care and education. Many observers consider the Metaverse the next form of the internet or, as they called it, Web3. Do you agree with the idea that the Metaverse is the future of the internet?
